  • Polyolefin powders having a small mean volume average particle size are useful in 3D-printing techniques such as powder bed fusion
  • where successive layers of powder are laid down and sintered to form a 3-dimensional end product. Powder bed fusion requires flowable powders to enable easy transport and loading of the powders. Powder bed fusion also requires powder having a small mean volume average particle size. A polyolefin powder having a small mean volume average particle size is conventionally formed in one of three ways: (i) spray drying an aqueous polyolefin dispersion with small particle size to remove water and obtain aggregated dry powder; (ii) coagulating or aggregating a small particle size aqueous polyolefin dispersion and filtering the aggregate to remove water; or ( iii) mechanically grinding the polyolefin to the desired size
  • such as through cryogrinding. When produced via spray drying and/or the coagulating oraggregating process
  • the resulting powder contains agglomerates with voids that are not fully dense
  • which deteriorates the mechanical properties of an end product formed from said powder. When produced via mechanical grinding
  • the resulting powder has a broad particle size distribution and the particles have irregular shapes (compared to spherical shapes).

  • The invention discloses a radiation-proof medical non-woven fabric and a preparation method thereof. The radiation-proof medical non-woven fabric comprises an inner layer non-woven fabric and an outer layer non-woven fabric facing outside air
  • and the outer layer non-woven fabric is prepared from the following raw materials in parts by weight: 15-25 parts of anti-radiation metal oxide
  • 60-80 parts of modified aramid fiber
  • 10-20 parts of graphene oxide and 5-10 parts of seaweed meal; the modified aramid fiber is hyperbranched polysiloxane grafted aramid fiber. The preparation method of the radiation-proof medical non-woven fabric comprises the following steps: preparing inner-layer non-woven fabric; preparing outer-layer non-woven fabric; and (3) connecting the inner-layer non-woven fabric and the outer-layer non-woven fabric together by using an adhesive to obtain the radiation-proof medical non-woven fabric. The radiation-proof medical non-woven fabric improves the compatibility of radiation-proof metal oxide and aramid fiber
  • is good in radiation-proof durability
  • and is excellent in adhesion and antibacterial property. Adhesion test: the radiation protective medical nonwoven fabrics described in examples 1 to 19 and comparative examples 1 to 3 were tested for adhesive strength using a LUMiFRac adhesive strength analyzer
  • and the test results are shown in table 2

  • Smooth polystyrene (PS) and polyamide 12 (PA 12) surfaces were produced via an injection molding process followed by a smoothing process and subsequently treated with O2 plasma to increase the number of polar groups capable of hydrogen bond formation on the surface. The presence of related groups was evident from XPS and contact angle measurements. The sample topographies were investigated by AFM. The plasma treatment allowed the joining of the substrates without adhesive by pressing the substrates together below or around Tg. Notably

Its combination with bentonite in agrochemical formulation showed similar rheological behaviour as the commonly used xanthan - bentonite combination. Laponite EP and bentonite display some synergism: analogous rheological properties could not be achieved using each clay alone or using a non-coated laponite RD - bentonite blend. cropscience

  • The sedimentation profile obtained during ageing shows that all gels collapse
  • as seen by the drop of their surface in figure 6.10. However
  • for bentonite and the mixture we see a homogeneous decrease of the transmission throughout the height of the gel indicating an increase of the concentration of the clay. This is consistent with a shrinkage of the gel. However
  • for attapulgite
  • the transmission decreases at the top of the gel but stays constant at its base
  • see figure 6.10a. This is in contradiction with the consolidation theory developed by Michaels and Bolger According to these authors
  • sedimentation happens when the static pressure outweighs the yield stress. In that case
  • the network starts collapsing at its base
  • thus increasing the volume fraction and strengthening the gel there. There is also the formation of a constant density layer
  • which collapses up to a point where the static pressure is equal to the yield stress. This theory was developed for Kaolin which is a non swelling clay with a shape similar to a platelet. We do not necessarily expect bentonite to follow such a theory as it is a swelling clay
  • but it may be more applicable to attapulgite. In our system
  • evaporation of water might have happened as well
  • affecting the top of the gel first as it is closer to the surface
  • Figure 6.10: Sedimentation profile obtained during ageing of each gel using X-Ray

  • Basically
  • separation processes can be described by extended Stokes law taking into account volume concentration of disperse phase (hindrance) and rheological behaviour of continuous phase. To deduce separation behaviour under high gravity in centrifuges one can assume that separation velocity scales linearly with acceleration in Newtonian liquids. Situation in non-Newtonian liquids is much more complex
  • however
  • this is often characteristic for industrial separation tasks
  • e.g. during downstream bioprocessing. Modelling of the separation processes gets even more complicated when taking into account polydispersity of real-world suspensions. To contribute to a better understanding
  • model investigations were performed with monodisperse polymer particles (6 and 15 µm) and their bidisperse mixtures in aqueous solutions of carboxmethyl cellulose (CMC). Measurements were conducted as function of centrifugal acceleration and at gravity
